  • The Calmness - Standing on the rocky shore as the sun was setting was a very surreal and calming experience. This image exemplifies that serene time and has a calming effect to gaze upon and make you contemplate time and reality.
    The Calmness
  • Buffalo Bay or "Buffs" as it is known by locals is a rugged beautiful beach in the Garden Route of the Cape coastline. On this evening, the tide was far out. This gave the effect of the sea being far away and the beach being deep. The sun began to set and put on a fantastic light display in the clouds, an wonderful time to be out in nature and this image was made.
Sea Forever - Buffalo Bay, South Africa
  • The trees and rocks in the distance are lying on a sandbar that juts out into the sea. On this evening, I set myself up on a rocky outcrop that allowed me to capture the sea as it rushed into the bay and have the trees and rocks in the distance. The colours of the last rays of sun were simply breathtaking and the water rushing in under the rocks I was standing on was powerful. I spent a few hours on that rocky outcrop and once the light had faded and turned to an inky darkness, I packed up to leave. Only then did I realise that the tide had come in and I was pretty much on a rocky, slippery island, in the dark, surrounded by a churning sea. It took me well over half an hour of clambering and climbing, over wet and slippery rocks to get back to the beach. It was worth it though, when I saw this result, I realised that it was well worth it.

  • Once again, the rough and ready coastline of the Western Cape captured my imagination. A storm had just rumbled through the area and was lifting. The low clouds were moving quickly across the water, the sea was churned up and the sun was just peeking out after being obscured during the downpour. The light became a furious red and orange, I managed to get 4 images during this time, this was my favourite.

  • Bounty of the sea
  • On this evening, the tide was running high and rushing over the rocks beneath my feet. I was very careful not to get pulled into the moving water as the rocky channels were quite deep. The surge was powerful and the sun was just beginning to fade when I made this image. The most compelling part of this image is the movement it conveys, you can feel the water moving and yet, the serenity of the warm clouds makes you feel calm. This is what I love about being a photographer, the opportunity to see and feel these things in the midst of the beauty of nature.

  • Delicacies of a Delicate Sea
  • This lone rock stood out like a sentinel. It was sharp, craggy and prominent. On this evening, the tide was surging onto the beach and then pulling back just as fast. I timed the shot so that the white water streaked as it pulled back to the ocean. The warm sunset turned from orange to pink and made this image that much more rewarding.
