  • Mount Rundle is an iconic mountain that overlooks the town of Banff. In the foreground is the Vermillion lakes which give a wonderful framing to the scene. On this evening, I set up my tripod and camera and began waiting for the right lighting to commence shooting. Being near the water was a mistake, the mosquitoes were relentless and bit continually. I spent 2 hours out here on that evening and when I got back to my hotel, I had over 50 mosquito bites. I was extremely happy with this image is spite of the annoying insects, it was one of the images that I wanted when I visited the Rockies and I am glad that I was able to capture such a beautiful scene on a perfect (well, almost...) evening.

  • Mount Edith Cavell is a mountain located in the Athabasca River and Astoria River valleys of Jasper National Park, Canada, and the most prominent peak entirely within Alberta. At 2007 metres, the mountain has the most prominent peak in Alberta. On this evening, I waited until long after sunset to being capturing some starscapes. By 11:30 pm, the scene was just right and resulted in this image. Standing there, in the absolute silence and presence of this magnificent mountain was almost like meditating. It is an evening that I will never forget, one of the most memorable of my whole photographic career.

  • The trees and rocks in the distance are lying on a sandbar that juts out into the sea. On this evening, I set myself up on a rocky outcrop that allowed me to capture the sea as it rushed into the bay and have the trees and rocks in the distance. The colours of the last rays of sun were simply breathtaking and the water rushing in under the rocks I was standing on was powerful. I spent a few hours on that rocky outcrop and once the light had faded and turned to an inky darkness, I packed up to leave. Only then did I realise that the tide had come in and I was pretty much on a rocky, slippery island, in the dark, surrounded by a churning sea. It took me well over half an hour of clambering and climbing, over wet and slippery rocks to get back to the beach. It was worth it though, when I saw this result, I realised that it was well worth it.

  • This lone rock stood out like a sentinel. It was sharp, craggy and prominent. On this evening, the tide was surging onto the beach and then pulling back just as fast. I timed the shot so that the white water streaked as it pulled back to the ocean. The warm sunset turned from orange to pink and made this image that much more rewarding.

  • Buffalo Bay or "Buffs" as it is known by locals is a rugged beautiful beach in the Garden Route of the Cape coastline. On this evening, the tide was far out. This gave the effect of the sea being far away and the beach being deep. The sun began to set and put on a fantastic light display in the clouds, an wonderful time to be out in nature and this image was made.
Sea Forever - Buffalo Bay, South Africa
  • On this evening, the tide was running high and rushing over the rocks beneath my feet. I was very careful not to get pulled into the moving water as the rocky channels were quite deep. The surge was powerful and the sun was just beginning to fade when I made this image. The most compelling part of this image is the movement it conveys, you can feel the water moving and yet, the serenity of the warm clouds makes you feel calm. This is what I love about being a photographer, the opportunity to see and feel these things in the midst of the beauty of nature.

  • The Atacama Desert in Northern Chile is a sublime place. It is the driest place on earth and there is literally little to no life there. Even birds avoid flying over it as they cannot come down for water, so they avoid it. This scene was taken after hiking up one of the huge dunes in the moon valley. The road you see in the foreground (left) takes travellers deep into the desert. The scene is unlike any other I have seen before.
